I have backed up my DVD collection to my Mac hard drive. Once I have transferred my DVD to a Mac’s hard drive, I no longer need the DVD itself to watch it on Mac. I notice that most of them appear as a folder with Video_TS and Audio_TS subfolders. Now I want to play Video_TS on Mac. Is there any easy way? A little searching turns out some solutions.

Solution 1: Play Video_TS with Mac’s DVD Player
Open your Mac’s DVD Player software. All versions of Mac OS X come with this program as part of the operating system. If the DVD Player software icon is not in your Dock, go to your Applications folder and find it. You can add it to your Dock by dragging the icon to the spot on the Dock where you want to access it in the future. Move to the File menu in DVD Player and select “Open DVD Media.” In the browser that appears, find the master folder of the Video_TS file you want to play. Do not select the Video_TS file directly because this may eliminate the sound.
Solution 2: Ply Video_TS files with VLC on Mac
Find third-party software to play Video_TS files. Programs such as the freeware VLC can play many different video formats. VLC works essentially the same way as DVD Player. Open the software and go to the “File” menu. Select “Open File” and find your Video_TS file in the browser. The file will open just as the DVD original would, giving you menu options for program selection. You can watch it in a window or full screen.
Solution 3: Convert Video_TS to MOV
Although Mac’s DVD Player or some third-party video player can support Video_TS files, there are some limits still. If you want to open and play Viddeo_TS folder with iTunes, QuickTime, it would be no direct way. By far the simplest way to watch your backed-up movies on Mac is to convert Video_TS to MOV files and watch them in iTunes or QuickTime Player.
You will need a conversion software package, such as Brorsoft DVD Ripper for Mac, an easy-to-use Video_TS converter for Mac program. It takes some time to make the conversion, but then you will have a compressed version of your Video_TS file that will take up a little more than 25 percent of the hard drive space the original file did. You only need to convert the file once and save it to watch it as many times as you wish.
1. Load VIDEO_TS files to the converter
Run the VIDEO_TS Converter Mac and click “Load DVD” to import the VIDEO_TS files you want to convert.
2. Choose output format
As for playing VIDEO_TS in QuickTime or iTunes on Mac OS X, the MOV, MP4, M4V file type is recommended.
